Flat Roofing

Flat structures are more commonly seen on commercial properties, but can also be found on some homes. Water travels much slower on a low slope roof, which is why it has a different roofing system than what is found on most residential properties. At Servicio Romero we install two different types of systems for flat roofs. SBS Modified Bitumen roofing (MBR) and Built-up roofing (BUR).

The main difference between the two is that Modified bitumen is a combination of asphalt and polymerized rubber. This modified material is able to expand and contract with the extreme cold and hot weather we experience in El Paso. This material is energy efficient and is made up of approximately 8.8% recycled materials.

We recommend MBR to our clients because it is the newer system and more technologically advanced system of the two; therefore requiring less layers of protection.

At Servicio Romero Roofing, we always makes sure we follow city codes to ensure that the project will pass the city's final inspection.

MBR

Our projects always start off by removing the existing roofing materials. We then inspect and replace rotten decking and perimeter wood. Next, we'll replace all flashings and drip edge and then install the base layer. We then install the cap sheet, which is a premium MB reinforced with polyester. Last but not least, we'll seal all of the roof penetrations with Acrylic cement (or you can upgrade to metal flashing for a small fee) and paint all roofing pipes to match the roof color.

We always make sure and clean the perimeter of your home thoroughly using blowers, brushes and magnets.

Modified Bitumen is also available as a Self-adhering system that is odorless. This option is ideal for residential projects that have a small flat area.

BUR

Our projects always start off by removing the existing roofing materials. We then inspect and replace rotten decking and perimeter wood. Next, we'll replace all flashings and drip edge and then install the base layer. We then install 2-3 layers of reinforced fiberglass. We will then apply one layer of water proofing emulsion followed by two coats of aluminum or elastomeric roof covering.
